The main works of art you will see in order on our Vatican tour are as follows:
Pinacoteca (1) The Transfiguration, Raphael's final work (d. 1520).
Pinacoteca (2) An incomplete set of tapestries designed by Raphael and woven in Brussels by the renowned Van Aelst workshop between 1516-1519. They were commissioned to be hung in the Sistine Chapel on special occasions then as now and depict scenes from the Gospels and Acts of the Apostles.
Pinacoteca (3) An unfinished portrayal of Saint Jerome by Leonardo Da Vinci.
Pinacoteca (4) The Deposition by Caravaggio.
Courtyard of the Pinecone (1) Named after the monumental bronze Pinecone. Originally a fountain, the Pinecone was cast during the 2nd Century AD.
Courtyard of the Pinecone (2) Boards displaying copies of works in the Sistine Chapel are situated here and routinely used by all guides to explain their history.
