Our Imperial Forum Tour (3 hours on foot, moderate walking) is a unique journey spanning 3,100 years of history. The name per se is in fact a misnomer; significant forum ruins in the Forum Romanum (717 BC) correspond to both the Roman Empire (27 BC - 395/476 AD) and the later years of the earlier Republican era (509 BC - c. 27 BC). We begin on Piazza Venezia with Trajan's Column, Forum and Market before moving on to matters of Empire and the Capitoline. From there, we wend our way down to the subterranean chambers of the Mamertine Prison. Deeper inside the Roman Forum, we guide you through the remains of temples including those of Concord, Castor and Pollux, Saturn, Vesta and Vespasian; two complete arches, namely Septimius Severus and Titus; three basilicas and other key sites including the Tarpeian Rock. We explore the Palatine Hill which presides over the ancient forum, where one might stop and reflect upon the magnitude of being before concluding with time spent inside the Colosseum, to consider what might have been so long ago. This section not only explains exactly what you will see on our Imperial Forum Tour, we have commissioned an experienced Guide to pen a History of the Colosseum and Roman Forum for customers and website visitors alike. Please read through each article before booking this Tour.
